Street Life Young Driver Education S.L.Y.D.E.

Are you aged 15 or 16 and looking to get your driving education off to an early start?

Here at Streetlife Driving School, in association with Colchester United Football Club, we offer the StreetLife Young Driver Education scheme (S.L.Y.D.E.), where you can learn driving skills for life. These skills will help you to become a safer driver in the future.

All lessons will take place in a controlled area on private roads on the 1st Sunday of every month at Colchester United Football Ground. You will be taught by professional DSA approved driving instructors in dual controlled cars.

Why S.L.Y.D.E?

Streetlife Driving School Ltd has been running since 2005, during that time we have worked with the Essex County Council Road Safety Officers and have learnt the true figures of killed or seriously injured young drivers.

Young Drivers (17-25yrs) represent about 3% of all licence holders in this country but are involved in 25% of all Killed and Seriously Injured (KSI) collisions – source: drivingcasultiesdown.org

Due to these alarming figures Streetlife Driving School Ltd in association with Colchester United Football Club have formed S.L.Y.D.E. (StreetLife Young Driver Education) to help educate drivers from a young age and help reduce these figures.

What you will learn

We will teach you about road safety and car control; this will include gear changes, parking, smooth driving, all reverse manoeuvres, dealing with junction’s roundabouts, crossroads and much more. We will also be able to answer any questions you may have or focus on any areas you struggle with.

With the alarming figures of Killed or Seriously Injured young drivers we at Streetlife Driving School are very passionate about wanting to drive these figures down and so on top of teaching you driving skills for life we have Emergency Response Services and local organisations come along to talk and educate you on all the aspects of driving and to learn them extra skills and knowledge you need to make your driving future a fun and safe place to be.

We use the facilities at Colchester United Weston Homes Stadium which are some of the best education resources in the country, compromising of a huge 9 metre screen and 4 50 inch plasma screens and having an interactive floor, We also have use of the Fire and Rescue Service drink drive simulator, the Essex Police Subaru driving Simulator adding all this together it makes for a fun, exciting, educating and a very safe way to learn them driving skills for life on your journey to a safer future out on the road.

Additional details, location and pricing

Pupils will get 45 minutes professional tuition from Driving Standards Agency approved Advanced Driving instructors in dual controlled cars. You will also receive a 20-30 minute presentation from an Emergency Response Service. For your first visit you will receive a welcome pack with some goodies including theory study material, free driving lesson voucher, pens, pencil etc.

The tuition will take place at the Colchester United Weston Homes Stadium with lessons starting at 8.30AM, with the last lesson at 2.45PM. If you need a special time to work around your day please call before booking and this can be arranged. The tuition takes place on the first Sunday of each month.

In order to take part in this scheme, participants must be at least 15 years of age, and all applications must be able to physically reach the controls of the vehicle. Any disability must be declared, but this information will be treated in the strictest confidence. We do have an option to teach disabled students too in a fully adapted automatic car.

Lessons cost £25 per session (plus a one off £5 registration). Pupils should aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of their lesson so that they can be booked in.

Please advise us of any cancellations in plenty of time and please note that payment will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation if less than seven days notice (previous Sunday) is given.
